GZU co-hosts the African Finance Association conference

The African Finance Association Conference which is being co-hosted by Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) and the African Finance Journal started this morning, Monday 21 May 2019, at the Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls.

The two-day conference, being held under the theme: Applied Research in Accounting, Finance, Insurance and Economics on Africa, will see academics from throughout the African continent and beyond presenting and interrogating academic papers on Accounting, Finance, Insurance and Economics. A total of 14 academics from Great Zimbabwe University’s Munhumutapa School of Commerce will present their papers at the conference.

In his opening address, Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo said that Great Zimbabwe University was committed to research that brings solutions to the challenges that the country and the continent was experiencing hence the large representation at the conference.

Professor Zvobgo said that the conference was a truly unique platform for researchers and practitioners to come together and discuss issues that impact on banking, finance, insurance and economics in Africa. He called for stronger cooperation and coordination between industry and academic institutions to meet the needs of the African continent.

“I therefore urge you all to make every effort to scale up the level of collaboration between universities, the private sector, public research centres and external funding institutions.
This conference comes at a time when we in Zimbabwe are battling as a nation for economic transformation. Policies and frameworks for such transformation have been put in place but the success of these requires the collective efforts of all Zimbabweans, our neighbours and international community,” said Professor Zvobgo.
