Dean’s Welcome Note
Welcome to the Julius Nyerere School of Social Sciences, situated in the Industrial area of Masvingo. The School combines state of the art infrastructure and beautiful natural surroundings. Its physical facilities consist of modern lecture rooms, computer laboratory, administrative block, recreation room, convenience shop, coffee shop and a refectory.
The School has four Departments and a Centre for Gender and Cultural Studies. The Centre was established in January 2015 under the Julius Nyerere School of Social Sciences. As a proponent for gender justice, the Centre strives to be a global centre of excellence in Gender and Cultural Studies. The Centre endeavors to transform unequal gender relations that are prevalent in society today. Both males and females are empowered with knowledge and skills they utilize in social transformation.
The School is anchored on the core values of ubuntu/hunhu (which means upholding human dignity), inclusiveness, innovation and creativity. In line with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education’s 5.0 agenda, all the degree programmes on offer are focused on innovation and industrialisation. The School strives to create a dynamic future by producing a critical mass of social scientists that are empowered to create jobs and practical solutions to current and upcoming problems.
The School currently offers various undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes which include Masters and DPhil programmes that are constantly evolving to meet the needs of an ever changing business world. The School boasts of a large student population which also includes international students. Being one of the largest school in the University, the school is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching and learning, promoting research, innovation and industrialisation as well as community engagement.
