CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVICE FOR THE UNIVERSITY
COMMUNITY
Great Zimbabwe University is closely monitoring the ongoing Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic. The University remains open and operational and will continue to follow the Zimbabwe Government’s advice
What is Coronavirus ?
Coronaviruses (CoV)/COVID-19 are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.COVID-19 is an infectious condition which means it can spread directly or indirectly from one person to another. The virus has not found a cure yet.
Common Signs of Infection Include
FEVER
A fever is a temporary increase in your body temperature, often due to an illness.
COUGH
A sudden, forceful hacking sound to release air and clear an irritation in the throat or airway.
SHORTNESS OF BREATH
Intense tightening in the chest, air hunger, difficulty breathing, breathlessness or a feeling of suffocation.
ADDITIONAL COVID-19 INFORMATION
- These may develop within 14-days of exposure to the illness
- Symptoms are usually mild an begin gradually
- Most infected people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment
Let’s take the following steps to avoid the spread of Coronavirus
Wash Your Hands
Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub.
Seek
Medical care early, if you have a fever, cough or experiencing diffculties in breathing. Stay home if you feel unwell and call the emergency numbers for help
Maintain
a social distance of at least one metre between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing
Practise
respiratory hygiene by covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze then dispose the tissue dispose of the tissue in a waste bin or flush it
Avoid
Shaking Hands
Avoid
Shaking hands touching your eyes, nose and mouth because hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses
